I’ve worked with businesses to capture their commercial photography at their workspace, shop or office before but nothing quite like this.
It’s always an honour to get invited to go behind the scenes of local businesses and help them showcase their service or products with professional photos. So I was very excited when Evan’s Bistro in Whitley Bay asked me to help them with some business photography. They were keen to get action shots and food photography to show off their new restaurant which opened April 2017.
It’s a brand new venture for the owners Gareth Bowden and Mark Spratt (who is also the head chef). They were very welcoming and open to my suggestions and creativity. Gareth was also keen on showing off some of the local produce that they pride themselves on providing.
We agreed that some kitchen lifestyle photography of the chef at work would be really nice. Mark seemed a little camera shy at first so we concentrated on close ups while he was busy preparing the vegetables. He soon relaxed and was happy to pose for a few lifestyle portrait photos too.
The food he created for me to shoot was amazing and I really enjoyed playing about with different angles and different lighting. Although I took my flash set up, the restaurant had a lot of natural window light which was great and we were able to take some shots from different angles for slightly different looks.
I love capturing the hands on process of businesses as I feel it tells an important story to the customer. If people can get a ‘flavour’ of your business, see a bit of personality and get to know you a little through the images they will be more inclined to remember you and trust you as a business.
This was a very cool experience for me and I’m excited to do more food photography and restaurant photography in the future. Tell your story with business lifestyle photography
