Christmas PR Product Photos

When it comes to getting more sales at Christmas it really pays to get your images done as soon as possible. The magazine publications will be starting to look for products to feature as early as June. So I recommend at least creating a plan and prepping your product for a shoot in May – My Good friend Louise Cox from Louise Cox PR advises that ideally your photoshoot should be around June if you want to get all the best press opportunities (August, at the latest, if you don’t want to miss out all together!).

So what image might you need?

Well the typical PR product shot looks like one of these examples: straight on, angled, or a shot of the product both open and packaged. I recommend including all three types of shots as this allows the editor (and you) to have choice.

You might also need on-brand lifestyle shots, where the product looks like it is set in a realist or styled environment. With Christmas product photography there are many different styles to opt for but it’s important to keep the styling on brand.

The lifestyle shot is more popular now that magazines have social media pages where they prefer to use the lifestyle images as appose to the cut outs. These images will also be very useful for your own use on your website, market place, social media, printed media etc. It’s useful to capture a few different angles and variations so you have a good selection to show your customer.

Another very useful image to have is the wider shot, like the examples below. These images are great for ads, newsletters, social media banners and website headers (these can also be cropped to create a square if you wanted to repurpose).

Lastly, this image shows that there is an intentional space on the left for your logo or some text if you want to create a campaign or flyer. So perhaps not a PR shot in itself but great for your own marketing.

All these shots are from a photoshoot I did in June for Colliery Soap. She had one product that she needed to get featured in a magazine and have some professional shots to promote of her own pages too. So the Christmas PR product photography package was ideal for her. She sent 5 bars of soap so that I could open them and use for extra styling.

What was included in the Christmas PR photography package?

  • 1-2-1 brand ideation
  • Sourcing of props and background
  • Shots: 8 in total
  • -Cut outs x 3 variations (1 product)
  • -Lifestyle x 3 variations (1 product)
  • -Hero/banner image x 1
  • -Image with space for text x 1
  • All 8 images edited and retouched
